It is quite a competitive world out there and everyone is vying for your attention. But then, how can you be sure that you are showering your attention on the right thing? One way of getting your attention would be to check whether you stand to gain anything from it.

Hence, in this manner, you can be assured that you will get a good deal and not end up spending more money than you are supposed to, trying to acquire something. While choosing credit cards, you should also learn how to effectively compare credit cards so that you don’t spend a lot of money unnecessarily.

Be Familiar With Important Terms

One of the things that you should be thorough with is the different terms associated with a credit card. These include things like annual fees, the percentage rate of interest as well as other things like rewards that you get for using with the card or even staying with a particular company.

Once you learn about these different terms and how they vary across a broad range, it becomes much simpler to choose the right card than how it might have been earlier. Remember that you will want to know which ones are high and which ones ought to be low.

Choosing The Right Medium To Compare

Another thing that you would want to be familiar with is the medium of comparison. This is important as well, since you might not always know where to go in order to compare effectively. One place that you would want to be familiar with in this regard is the internet. Many individuals harness the power of the internet in order to make effective comparisons and not spend a lot of time trying to look at other ways of performing the same comparison.

Short Listing Trustworthy Companies

The first step to an effective comparison is to know which companies you ought to shortlist. After all, you wouldn’t want to consider companies that are not particularly impressive in order to perform the comparison. Once you have the right companies in mind, your task should be significantly simplified.

There are a lot of credit card providers out there and depending on the status of your credit, you might either be able to choose all of them, or have to be content with a select few. Ultimately, you would want to select the best provider for your terms in mind.

Hence, accounting for all these factors, you might be able to conclude as to which card is the most suitable for your requirements. If you have not yet been able to decide on the right kind of card, you might be able to do so without really having anything much to worry about.

Remember that taking your time and deciding on the card without putting in as much effort would perhaps be the right call to make. Since credit history is vital to be in good standing, you would want to do as much as possible to not mess that up. Putting an effort to compare credit cards is a sensible decision in this regard.

For those with good credit, finding the best credit line available is key to saving money and using credit wisely. However, not all offers from lenders are the same. If you want low interest rate credit cards that are the best possible offer for you, you have to look at the details of any offer you receive. Often times, it is the small differences that make the biggest impact on the way that you use your card.

Check out the following five things to look for when you are searching for the best low interest rate credit card offer available. Keep in mind that these offers are often associated with those who have good credit or better and may not be available to those with less than ideal credit.

1. A lower interest rate is key. When you compare offers, you want to look for the lender that is going to offer you the best possible interest rate. It pays to compare several lines of credit to find out which offers the best rate available.

2. Fees may be applied. Even though you have a better credit score than others, some lenders still charge fees to you. However, not all do. You should not be under the assumption that you have to pay costly membership or annual fees to lenders. There are lenders that do not charge these fees to qualified borrowers.

3. Check out the grace period. The grace period of any line of credit is the time between when the monthly cycle ends and the time you have to pay your balance without incurring any interest charges. The longer this cycle is, the better since it gives you more time to pay down the borrowed money each month.

4. Read the details of the rewards program. First, ask yourself, will I use this rewards program? Those with good credit often get trapped into these rewards programs and never redeem the points earned, making them worthless. Keep in mind that unless you are going to use them, these lines of credit could offer you a higher interest rate than those programs without a rewards program.

5. Watch out for introductory periods with great offers that do not provide long term benefits. A variety of introductory offers are out there and they are alluring reasons to switch from one company to the next, but you do need to take into consideration what the interest rate, fees and terms of the credit card are after that introductory period expires.

Lenders are required to provide you with all of these details before you apply for the credit line. Therefore, all you have to do is to compare one low interest rate credit card to the next to find out which one can offer you the best overall product.

When you operate an online business that accepts credit cards, there is significant risk built into your business. Many small business owners tend to think that it’s just the big time businesses that are at risk of being ripped off.

Not so. Think about it – doesn’t it make sense that smaller businesses would be easier targets? After all, most small businesses have far less sophisticated systems than larger businesses do.

Protecting yourself against online crimes starts with you being on top of things. Be alert! Be cautious! And be informed! If you are, then the following 6 strategies will all fall into place and will become second nature to you.

Validate Credit Cards

By all means, don’t ever skip this most basic of tasks. Don’t process a credit card transaction when a card has been declined, no matter how much the customer pleads with you or how bad you need the sale.

2. Verify suspicious orders

If you are suspicious of an order, pick up the phone or drop the customer an email to confirm their order. Confirm the card number over the phone.

3. Fight charge backs

Sometimes, an actual legitimate card holder can rip you off by filing a charge back. You’ll not only be out the money for the sale, but you’ll also lose the product as well. On top of this, you’ll be hit with a charge back fee by your credit card processor. To avoid legitimate charge backs, be sure to inform your customers of your refund policies and how they can get in touch with you if they have a problem. Deal with the legitimate problems by offering a refund. This will get you the product back in your hands and will save you the charge back fee. Keep records of all correspondence you have with your customers. If you run into a situation where a customer files a charge back that you feel is unwarranted, having a correspondence trail with your customer may very well help you get the charge back reversed.

4. Add fraud protection

VeriSign and other credit card processors offer fraud protection programs for their ecommerce customers. Screening features, along with fraud alerts help minimize the number of bogus orders you’ll receive, which means fewer charge backs. This service is generally available at an extra monthly or per transaction cost, but is well worth it.

5. Card Codes

Be sure to require customers enter in their credit card verification code. This ensures the customer has the card in front of them. Without the code, the order can’t be processed. This is generally an option you can turn off in your order processing software. Don’t do it!

6. Accept online checks

Most credit card processors allow for the acceptance of online checks. Online checks have far fewer fraud risks, so this may be a good way to offset the risk from accepting credit cars. If accepting online checks, be sure to accept credit cards as well as you don’t want to limit payment options as this could result in fewer sales.

Finding credit cards with low interest rates is an effective, and a surprisingly overlooked, way for consumers to reduce their debt and save money. The good news is that this does not have to be an arduous or time consuming process.

With a small amount of preparation, a few key pieces of information, and a little persistence, anyone can learn how to be a confident and effective shopper for low interest cards.

Approximately 55% of all credit cardholders carry a balance on their cards, and for these individuals in particular it’s important to not only know how to find low interest cards, but to understand the general credit approval criteria used by card companies.

Often, the difference between a low interest credit card and higher interest rate cards can be 10% or more. A card with a balance of $5000 and an interest rate of 10%, for example, would have a minimum monthly payment of $92 (keeping in mind that minimum payment calculations can vary among companies).

However, if this same card had a rate of 20%, the minimum payment shoots up to $129. Even worse, the time frame to pay off the higher interest card (paying the minimum payment) increases by nearly two years, and the total interest costs over the life of the card is roughly $4000 greater. Ensuring you are not overpaying on your credit card interest simply makes good financial sense that can directly impact your bottom line.

Preparing For the Search
Before setting out on your credit card hunt, it makes sense to first do a little prep work to aide in your research. Two points are essential. Firstly – be clear on how good (or bad) your credit is. Secondly – you need to understand the various types of fees and penalties associated with credit cards so that you can accurately compare total costs and features between different card offers.

Know what is on your credit report. With today’s laws that govern consumer’s availability to their personal credit reports, there is no excuse for not obtaining and reviewing reports periodically. Learn the process to request your credit report (link to how to get a copy of your credit report).

Your credit rating determines if, and how much, leverage you have over the credit card companies. Do you have an excellent credit profile that card companies drool over? Or, conversely, do you have poor credit – and find it difficult to get approved for most types of credit?

When we talk about one’s credit rating we refer not only to the all important credit score (link to what is a good credit score), but also the detailed payment history information contained in your personal credit report. Like any loan product, getting the best rates on credit cards will require an excellent credit history and payment record.

The better the card interest rate – the more stringent will be the credit requirements. Being clear on your credit rating let’s you know if you should concentrate your search efforts on the very best rates, or perhaps focus on a card offer that is a tier or two down from the lowest rates.

It’s important to know and thoroughly understand the cost and fees associated with a typical credit card. Regulation Z of the Truth in Lending Act requires lenders to disclose fees and rates in a uniform manner. Credit card interest cost is expressed in the annual percentage rate (APR). Reg Z is extremely helpful in that it ensures that card companies publish the APR in big, easily recognizable lettering.

However, beware that other penalties, fees, or rules may be found only in the fine print. For that reason – make sure to always read and understand the terms of any offer before submitting an application. Other fees to consider are; annual fee, late payment charges, grace period before late payment is charged, over-the-limit fees, credit limit increase fee, cash advance fee, interest rate on cash advances, and any other penalties. Hone in on the fees or penalties that are especially important to you. Do you sometimes need a few extra days to make a payment? If so – the grace period and late charge fees should carry extra weight in your card search criteria.

Also critical is to know when and under what circumstances a company can increase the rate. Credit cards come with either a fixed or variable interest rate. Though cards with fixed rates can go up, companies must provide at least a 15 day notice. Variable-rate cards, on the other hand, change automatically and without notice to the cardholder. Most financial experts recommend choosing a fixed-rate card over the variable rate.

Thankfully, we live in an age where the most efficient and speedy method to find, compare and research credit cards is right at our fingertips- the internet. A good first step is to get an idea of the average card rates in the country, which provides you with a reference point to gauge what rates are below average, above average, or somewhere in the middle.

Good credit card rate charts can be found at bankrate.com and indexcreditcards.com. It’s not uncommon for rate charts from different sites to show a slight variance in rates. Tabulating the average rates among credit cards from across the entire country is a complex process, with a fair degree of differences arising from data interpretation or timing processes. Use the charts as a guide – and try to utilize more than one.

To shop for, and research, a variety of credit card offers, the recognized leader is bankrate.com. There, you’ll find an abundance of information to help you find and evaluate rates and other features. You have the ability to search by card type (such as low Interest cards or rewards cards) or credit type (e.g., excellent, good, average, or bad).

Additional quality sites include creditcardguide.com, creditcards.com, cardratings.com, and cardtrak.com. MSN.com (moneycentral.msn.com/banking/services/creditcard.asp) has an excellent credit card analyzer tool where you can easily scan information on many cards, while Interest.com ( credit-cards.interest.com/content/compare/) employs a handy comparison tool that enables you to search by state.

As mentioned before, read the details and fine print of each offer that falls into your desired rate target range. Make sure the published APR is just an introductory offer. You may see a “V” next to the APR – this signifies the rate is variable. Use several sights to compare a wide selection of card products and offers.

What you need to qualify
Credit card lenders each have their own separate set of approval guidelines, which is dependent on their risk appetite and other economic and business factors. Generally speaking, to get the cards with the lowest rates, a credit score of 720 to 750, or even higher for some offers, will be required.

Lenders will want to see a clean credit payment history, a higher than average income, and a low debt utilization ratio. Debt utilization, or sometimes called credit utilization, is a financial ratio that measure a person’s total credit balances vs. their total credit limits – and is a figure lenders watch closely when extending credit.

To visualize how to calculate a debt utilization ratio – let’s look at an example of a person whose only debt is 2 credit cards, each with a $5,000 balance. If this person has maxed out both credit cards (i.e., their amount owed equals the credit limit), his or her debt utilization will be 100%.

Lenders would frown heavily on this scenario as it may appear that a person may be overextending or mismanaging their debt. A figure of 20% should be the target for any individual looking to obtain a card with a low rate.

Final Thoughts
Not all consumers, of course, have the necessary qualifications to get the absolute cheapest cards – yet this need not be the end goal for everyone. For some individuals, simply improving on the rate you currently have could be a sensible goal. Evaluate your own credit worthiness – and then set realistic goals as to what credit card product you will target.

An important point to remember is that you don’t want to apply to too many offers at one time. Doing so raises a red flag to lenders that you may be trying to get too much credit in a short period of time – and can temporarily reduce your credit score. The best method is to submit one card application, and wait for a credit decision before applying for another offer if necessary.

Almost everyone has at least one credit card these days. It has been becoming a need rather than merely a lifestyle. However, do they really know how to use their cards wisely? This is still in doubt. They will surely know how to spend the cards until reaching the limit.

They also know how to use it for shipping and the payment made afterward. Most people commonly understand this knowledge already. Unfortunately, most people still do not know how to have sufficient protection over their cards.

Before you use any of your cards, you need to understand that you are going to borrow some amount of money from the credit card supplier. Once you make a payment with your card, you will need to pay the amount back within a particular period.

Otherwise, you will need to pay the interest of the borrowed amount as well as some other fees. Therefore, you must be aware on how much you afford for the payment. It is a crucial thing that you need to pay attention, because it is related to your credit rating.

You should avoid any bad credit rating because it can give impact to other field. If your credit rating is bad, you might experience a mortgage application rejection, loan rejection and even job application rejection. Therefore, you need to be wise in using your cards so that your rating is good. One tip here is to avoid over 75% debt on your card limit. It is to protect you from over debt as well as to maintain a good credit rating.

There are so many credit cards fraud currently that you really need to have a good protection over your cards. You can follow some basic precautions here. You may start from the given PIN provided by the card companies. You will receive this PIN soon after you get the card. You can change the PIN afterward and keep it safe for yourself. It is also important to put your signature on the back part of your card so that other people will not claim it as theirs.

Further to following the instruction on the security procedures, it is also important to know all other instructions so that you can get all benefits available from your cards. The benefits will generally include discounts on particular purchases, car rentals, travel and so many others.

Moreover, there is also a cash back option for the reward program. If you travel frequently, you can get benefits from the cards, such as travel insurance and protection over you baggage. Besides that, it is also possible to get some joining benefits from the suppliers of your cards. Most often, you will get some discount vouchers.

You also need to have a clear picture of your cards’ fees and commission charges. Mostly, the cards will include the annual fees and interest rate. You can find some credit card suppliers who will free you from any annual fees under certain requirements.

Furthermore, your credit cards may also offer some services in which they will charge some amount of commission, for example cash withdrawal and foreign exchange transaction. You can get complete information in the instruction booklet that is sent along with the credit card.

The suppliers of credit cards generally develop various offers from year to year. They will inform these new products to their cardholders through e-mail or monthly billing statement. Therefore, you need to keep posted on the offers. It is possible that you might find something interesting.

Every time you use your credit cards, you will generally earn some points. You can accumulate these points as your rewards. When you have enough points, you are able to exchange your earned points for some gifts. Different credit card suppliers might offer different rewards program. They will state all the requirements as well as the rewards gifts in the catalogue. You will receive this catalogue as a reference when you become the cardholder.

You need to study all the requirements and terms of your credit cards applications carefully. By doing so, you are able to get all the possible benefits from you credit cards.

Credit cards are of great use in these days of technology. Whether it is for shopping online, booking tickets or even building up your credit ratings, you become absolutely handicapped without a credit card.

But if you have bad credit ratings and a bad credit history, then it would be really difficult for you to get one. With poor credit, a good credit card will remain a distant dream for you. You will have to be satisfied with poor credit card.

A poor credit rating can be caused due to a variety of reasons like failure to pay household bills, rent or mortgage arrears, loan defaults, bankruptcy etc. May be you are looking for some funds to refurbish your newly bought home and you feel all doors closed on you. But there is hope for you as there are specialized people in the market to help you out in your dire need.

These are the days when more and more people are falling into the trap of debt. Families are forced to even file for bankruptcy. But these situations can be avoided by seeking help at the right door. What can be done in such cases is to find information regarding poor credit card immediately.

It is true that you will be in a hopeless condition when you have poor credit. Nobody will be willing to give a card and finally when somebody is willing to give one, you are ready to pay almost anything for this golden opportunity.

You should realize that there will be many poor credit cards out there to grab the situation. They will charge more fees on the card and you will have to pay through your nose before even thinking about really using the new card.

Most credit issuers consider two types of people in high risk group – those who have a bad credit past and those who have no credit past. Poor credit card comes as a blessing for these people to turn a fresh leaf in their lives.

There are certain factors to be kept in mind while applying for the card. The most significant one is to keep paying all your other bills on time. It is quite natural for you to get offers from other cards, once you get a card.

But you should remember not to keep more than three cards – one or two with a small credit limit and one with a larger limit in case of emergencies. Since there are many cards that do not charge annual fees, it is wise not to get a card with an annual fee.

It is equally important not to overspend. Cards should be used for your advantage and buy something which you can pay for in cash. This is a technique to avoid overspending. It should also be noted that most of the credit cards carry interest rates of 18-21%. If you are not able to pay off your monthly balance, it is better to stop using the card until you can pay off.

Identity theft has led the race of crimes that are mostly complained by people. According to Better Business Bureau, a total of 27.3 million people have been exploited by identity theft in the course of five years. In 2003 alone, a total of 9.9 million citizens were victimized.

You must learn on how to prevent and protect your self from this federal crime as you will never know when you will become an identity theft victim. You must also know what to do in case your identity has been unfortunately stolen and even when you suspect that it is already happening to you.

There simple tips on how to prevent identity theft. First, you must alter all papers that contain your personal information before throwing them at the trash can. You can use a shredder, for example, to cut your papers both length-wise and cross-wise. You should especially do this when you throw pre-approved credit card offers, which are already filled up with your personal information.

Next, you must keep in mind that it is not a standard action for companies to ask you of your credit card number or social security number through the telephone. You should also avoid leaving your automated machine teller (ATM) receipts at the machines or booths.

In addition, you should be cautious with the websites you store your information into. Make sure that they are secure and have a lock icon on the lower bottom part of your screen. You will also notice that the URL address of these website start with https:// instead of the usual http://.

Thus, if you ever suspect that your identity has been compromise, here are the following steps for you to follow:

1. Report your suspicions to the three nationwide credit monitoring companies so that a fraud alert can be placed at your file. You can call at least one of them because each is responsible to call the two others if you file your report. The fraud alert will allow credit companies to be more cautious if an account is opened under you name. They will be required to call you first to confirm the activity.

2. Call the local authorities so that the crime can possibly be put to a stop. Also, the police report that is given by your local police department will add as a supporting document when you will start your disputing process.

3. You must close all the accounts that you suspect were affected with the crime. You open a new account instead and place a fraud alert to prevent any further suspicious activities from happening.

4. Phone the FTC to file your report. They have a database that will assist the local law enforcements in facing identity theft problems and to further aid you as you contact them.

5. Frequently monitor your credit history for any disputes and suspicious transactions. Use the annual free credit monitoring service offered by the government. You can also opt to subscribe to other credit monitoring services on a monthly basis.

When you sign up for a credit card, there are a sizable number of factors that you would want to keep in mind. However, only a handful of them are important as such and you don’t have to keep all the factors in mind.

By looking at these critical factors, you can determine whether or not you would want to go in for the card. By performing a suitable credit card comparison, you should be able to choose the right kind of card that is suitable for your particular profile.

How Much Are The Annual Fees?

Costs involved with the card need to be compared primarily. One of the main costs would possibly be the annual fees, which can come to a sizable amount if you don’t look at it before signing up. Sometimes, cards offer zero annual fees, but the money will be coming in some other manner.

Hence, always read through the fine lines just to be sure that you are not being taken for a ride. Since no one wants to spend more money than they should, it is essential that you check on all of these fees just to be on the safe side.

What About Rewards?

Loyalty should be rewarded, and the more you use a card, the more points you should be able to collect from the expenses involved. Hence, you should get suitable rewards so that you don’t feel that the company doesn’t appreciate your business.

All credit cards have some sort of rewards program to encourage people to use it and make sure that they don’t end up closing account because they are not being treated with enough perks. Some rewards are really good and probably a strong reason for you to consider the card. Hence, go through these and depending on what suits you the most, you can choose a card.

What About Credit Requirements?

Of course, all of the above aspects are useless if you are not able to obtain the card in the first place. You will want to make sure that you are able to get the card and with conditions and terms that are suitable for your credit rating. Many a times, individuals get carried away with what a credit card has to offer, but are not eligible for it due to their poor credit history. Hence, you would want to avoid all of this by first checking this and then looking at the finer details of the card.

Can The Provider Be Trusted?

You obviously don’t want to be associated with a bank that is not doing too well. When you do go in for a credit cards, you would want to get a good provider and one that is going to be around for a long time.

If you end up getting a card from a bank that is going to be sinking, then this is something that you would want to watch out for that, over everything else. Even if a credit card has really good terms and conditions, if the provider is not around to honor them, it will not be of much use.
